The center of Argentina and especially the province of Pampa is currently plagued by beetles. Geo magazine reports.
These millions of beetles invade streets, parks and gardens, houses, garages … everywhere.
Question: High temperature in the country (temperature exceeds 41 C, Tuesday, January 13, in the country’s capital Buenos Aires), and very high humidity.
Beetles are buried in the form of larvae in winter, but exposed in summer, attracted by the increase in temperature, humidity and light of general lighting, to reproduce, so their almost uncontrollable multiplication.
Santa Isabel, deputy mayor of Santa Echebere province, located in Pampa province, told local media Infohuello: “They were falling on roofs like hail, and we saw them land on the road and collide with glass or roofs. Passing cars.”
The Santa Isabel police chief confirmed that the beetles had invaded the buildings: “At the police station, they lifted the roof, and in a commercial complex, the roof. At the gas station, they blocked the pipes,” she explained.
These insects are not aggressive, but they do spread odors.
Authorities advised the public to cover their eyes and face.
The city of Santa Isabel has decided to cut off public lights at night to prevent the reproduction of beetles.
