Max Knows How to Recognize My Voice

Hello and welcome to the new world of the Dogpound.

I bought one of those voice recognition programs thinking it would be neat to dictate versus typing.  Many times, I have a good idea going through my head, but by the time I get the words typed some of the brilliance has dissipated.  So I installed the software package and part of the installation involves the computer’s learning your voice pitch and pattern.

To do this, they give you some stories to read.  The computer follows along by highlighting what you have just read into the mike, and if the computer does not understand or loses track of where you are in the story, it will stop, highlight the last word it recognized, and beeps to alert you to the fact that you need to repeat part of the sentence.

All was going well when I got a “beep”; it highlighted the word “supplementary.” Okay. I repeated “supplementary”; again, “Beep.”

I said it fast. Beep. I said it slow. Beep. I spelled it. Beep. I said it softly: Beep. I shouted it. Beep. I said it fast three times in a row. Beep, beep, beep.  I started to sound like the Road Runner – you know his famous BEEP!  BEEP! as he speeds away from the coyote?

Unfortunately, the system does not allow you to skip a word, so I had to give up, exit, and start over with a different story that did not have the word “supplementary” in it.  I am glad to report that I successfully made it to the end of the new story with a minimum of beeps and cursing!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“A foolish man tells a woman to stop talking, but a wise man tells her that her mouth is extremely beautiful when her lips are closed.”  Dogpound Wisdom

MILITARY COMMUNICATION
As we stood in formation at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, our flight instructor said, “All right!  All you dummies fall out.”

As the rest of the squad wandered away, I remained at attention. The instructor walked over until he was eye-to-eye with me, and then just raised a single eyebrow.  I smiled and said, “Sure was a lot of ‘em, huh, sir?”

SOCIAL WORKER TALK
Two social workers were walking through a rough part of the city in the evening. They heard moans and muted cries for help from a back lane. Upon investigation, they found a semi-conscious man in a pool of blood. “Help me, I’ve been mugged and viciously beaten!” he pleaded.

The two social workers turned and walked away.   One remarked to her colleague: “You know, the person who did this really needs help.”

That is it for me.  As always be good, play safe, and remember to pronounce your words clearly.
