Hello and welcome to the Capricornia article from the Dogpound.

Hard to believe that it is that time of the season already, with Tom the Turkey dodging the axe, followed closely behind by that big fat man with the jolly laugh – and we are not talking about Bill Clinton either!

Unfortunately it seems the economy is going to try and put a damper on things. Business is down; unemployment is up. About everywhere you look, there is a dismal vision to greet us this year.  It has been a long time since I have seen such depressing times; my last time was some years ago when I had a surprise layoff and Christmas was based on making simple gifts by hand to stretch our limited funds. It was tough for sure, but the good news is that we can make the season what we want it to be.

Despite the gloomy forecast, we can still count our blessings such as friends, family, health, and spirituality, among many other things that are not dependent on the financial environment. Indeed, these things can be influenced by the current events but not really changed by them. This season, after all, is a time to count what we have and not bemoan what we do not have.  I know it is easier said than done, since I will be away from my family this holiday season, but they know they are in my heart and that I love them.  So we wish you and your loved ones the same experience. Just let them know that they are part of you and no matter how far apart you may be this holiday season, the love will always be there – no dollar signs attached.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.” W. T. Purkiser

THANKSGIVING FOOTBALL
The pro football team had just finished their daily practice session when a large turkey came strutting onto the field. While the players gazed in amazement, the turkey walked up to the head coach and demanded a tryout. Everyone stared in silence as the turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the defensive line. When the turkey returned to the sidelines, the coach shouted, “You’re terrific! Sign up for the season, and I’ll see to it that you get a huge bonus.”

“Forget the bonus,” the turkey said. “All I want to know is, does the season go past Thanksgiving Day?”

I need to go and defrost the turkey; as always be good, play safe, and remember to thank the good Lord for your daily blessings.
