Do As Tiger Does

This just in: Tiger Woods is good.  There are very few times in sports where it can be said that greatness is occurring.  We are watching greatness and should take advantage of the opportunity to watch it happen.

Some people like to say that he doesn’t have the competition that other generations had.  Yes he does, and even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t matter.  He has the ability to hit shots that others can only dream of, seemingly at will.  His concentration is the best I have ever seen.  His mental game is the most impressive part of his ability.  Tiger is able to control his game and hit every shot for a specific purpose.  His concentration is so strong that he doesn’t worry about any shot other than the one he is playing.  Other players on tour are also able to do this, but not to the degree that he can.  When he starts every tournament, he absolutely believes that he will win.  His belief has gotten so strong that some of the other players agree with him.  They have beaten themselves before they even start.

I would not be surprised if Tiger wins the Grand Slam this year.  He seems to be able to peak at the right times and always gears his year around the majors.  What he is actually doing is playing in all the other tournaments he competes in without his best game.  This is what is scary.  He is better than everyone else without being at his best.

Tiger seems to be able to win whenever he wants, wherever he wants.  His dominance will not end any time soon.  The only example I can think of in my lifetime of total dominance more impressive than what Tiger is doing is Lance Armstrong winning the Tour de France seven times in a row, after he recovered from cancer.  That is another story for another day.

My tip from all of this is simple.  Watch Tiger.  Watch what he does.  Don’t worry about how he does it in his swing, because if anyone could swing like Tiger, we would be talking about them.  Instead, watch why he plays the shots he plays.  You can learn a lot from watching Tiger pick apart a golf course.  He decides what the best play is and then plays it.  Take notes on what he does, and try to use some of it in your own game.  You should see improvement in your score, even if you don’t hit the ball any better.
