After a successful run as a standout forward on the Bird Varsity Basketball Team, Travis Keels is looking to make some waves this fall at the collegiate level. Recently, Keels received a full athletic grant to attend Augusta State University in Georgia.
“I think that he will be a real good college player,” says Chuck Tester, coach of the Bird varsity basketball team. “He will still get stronger as he gets older.”
At 6’7”, Keels served as captain of the team at Bird, earning numerous accolades for his performance. He was named to the All Dominion District first team, the All Metro first team and received an honorable mention for All State. He was also named the Dominion District MVP. During this past season, Keels put up some impressive numbers, including 16.4 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game, and 4.5 blocked shots per game.
“Travis had a real good year,” says Tester. “He shoots well from the outside and plays well on the inside. He was our second best three-point shooter, sinking about 41 percent.”
Augusta State University is a Division II university. This year, their basketball team
participated in the NCAA Division II Championship game.
