L.C. Bird High School senior Kenyon Lewis scores the first touchdown during Monday night’s Central Region semi-final game against Meadowbrook High School. Meadowbrook won 27-14.

It was as game that will be talked about for many football seasons to come: the Central Region Playoffs semi-final game Monday night between L.C. Bird and Meadowbrook.  It was the second year in a row that the Monarchs eliminated the Skyhawks in the first round of regional play. With a completely different game in the second half, the Monarchs outscored the Skyhawks, ending the game 27-14.

Skyhawks senior Kenyon Lewis scored the first touchdown of the evening, giving control of the field to the Skyhawks during the first half.   Bird scored again in the third quarter giving them a 14-0 lead.  With 10 minutes to go in the game the Monarchs recovered a Bird fumble, and Monarch Domico Phillips scored on a six-yard run. The extra point was no good, but the Monarchs were on fire.

The tying touchdown was made by Desmond Coble on a quarterback sneak.  With under three minutes to play, Coble intercepted a pass at their own 23- yard line and ran 77 yards for an incredible play.  With 40 seconds left in the game, Monarch Lequan Lawence picked up a Bird fumble and ran 95 yards for a touchdown ending the game 27-14.  Visit www.terrysisisky.com for a replay of the game.
