Tragedy befell Thomas Dale High School once again when 15-year-old Kelsey Perry collapsed during softball practice at Carver Middle School on April 24. Transported to Chippenham Medical Center, Perry was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police are still unsure as to the reason for Perry’s death. Nothing suspicious is suspected, though toxicology tests have been ordered and the situation is being termed a death investigation pending a report from the medical examiner.
An avid athlete, Perry played on an 18-and-under slow pitch team for the Chesterfield Youth Softball Association. She had begun playing T-ball as a child and graduated to soccer and softball as she grew older.
Perry attended Thomas Dale High School during the first half of the school year, but also took night classes in the Spring Forward Program at the Chesterfield Technical Center, a program for students who have academic problems during their first year of high school. Thanks to the program, she was receiving As and Bs on her report cards. According to one of her sisters, Perry dreamed of one day becoming a journalist.
At upcoming games, the team will wear armbands in Perry’s memory.
