I Read it as Red

To the Editor:

Obama isn’t a Democrat, a liberal, a leftist, or a socialist, but a Bolshevik. For those unfamiliar with the term, it means communist revolutionary. His communist programmers have sent him out to present the Communist Manifesto to an American public, now properly prepared by over forty years of communist propaganda in public education, to accept as a new shining “ladder of opportunity.” The Communist Manifesto is in fact a degenerative ideology that ultimately calls into question the value even of human existence. Communism offers life only to a few at the top and existence to all others. Existence is all a slave has, and when technology replaces their function, communists don’t free them; they eliminate them.

The U.S Constitution is a true ladder of opportunity. It cannot guarantee, but offers to us all at least the opportunity to live, not merely exist. What do I mean when I distinguish between life and existence? That’s best understood with another question. What is lost by a convict or slave? What’s lost is freedom. One can exist in the absence of freedom. One, however, cannot live in the absence of freedom. What, then, is freedom? I cannot define freedom. I cannot define art, but I know it when I see it. I cannot define pornography, but I know it when I see it. Nor can I define freedom, but I know it when I feel it and it feels good. It feels good enough to fight for, and if God wills, die for.
