Leon Johnson, the oldest and longest living resident in Bensley served as the Grand Marshall in the parade. He also knew A.W. Bensley, developer of the first subdivision in Chesterfield County. Johnson was also honored during the ceremonies by the Chester Masonic Lodge for his 70-year service in the Masons. Mr. Johnson is being driven by George Fisher. Johnson is also known as the Mayor of Bensley.

Trolley tours were held thoughout the day touring 12 historic sites in their community. Norma Corbin, pictured standing, served as one of the several tour guides.

Inside the Bensley Community Center, the hall had been converted to a history museum. Major groups like DSCR and DuPont had displays of their collections representing their past history and future; Jefferson Davis Association was promoting the Historic Rt. 1 highway; enlarged old photos were displayed on the walls; and several businesses with display tables wanted to let their neighbors learn more about them.

The Bensley Centennial Celebration had 16 units in their parade. They made their way through the community to open Saturday’s activities. Mary Ellen Bowman, left, and Margaret Ann Snellings lead the parade. They have lived in Bensley all their life.
