Browns acquiring OBJ from Giants

New York Giants: Conflicting Odell Beckham Jr. reports continue (Report)

Browns acquire Odell Beckham Jr. from Giants for draft picks, Jabrill Peppers

The Browns will trade a first round pick, third round pick and Jabrill Peppers to the Giants for Beckham. ESPN's Adam Schefter followed up with the details of the blockbuster trade.

Though it was rumored Beckham was on the block, the deal is still somewhat of a shock given that the Giants signed Beckham to a five-year, $95 million contract extension in August with $65 million in guarantees.

Last year, Jarvis Landry led the Browns with 81 catches on 149 targets for 976 yards and four touchdowns.

Via Over The Cap, the Giants would take on $16 million in dead money by trading Beckham this year before June 1 (while clearing $5 million in cap space).

Beckham's behavior has been odd at times, but outside of questioning Eli Manning last season he has not been a headache for the Giants on the same level Brown was for the Steelers. But they were willing to listen to offers, and there were teams that were interested in his services. They included the Browns and San Francisco 49ers, according to sources.

Cleveland, meanwhile, makes another big move as it looks to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2002. He'll also give quarterback Baker Mayfield an elite target on what is turning into, on paper, one of the most unsafe groups in the NFL. Only Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints recorded more (321). The two played at LSU together as well.

Cleveland has been busy this offseason.

These days, you can never have too many weapons in the National Football League, and if Los Angeles were smart, they would at least consider the possibility of Beckham if the Giants intended on exploring trade options for the wideout. The Browns' odds to win the Super Bowl went from 25-1 to 14-1 at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.

This gives Cleveland the potential to have one extremely potent passing attack, especially because the team has a potentially risky rushing attack, too.
