Music's top stars set for Grammys gala

Some A-list artists (Ariana Grande, Drake, Kendrick Lamar) have already made headlines for confirming they won't take the stage.

Lady Gaga's "Shallow" just keeps winning this awards season, picking up a Grammy on Sunday before competing for other major awards later in the day. It went on to win a Golden Globe at this year's show and is the favorite heading into the Oscars on February 24.

Looming predictions of rain could also put a damper on this year's awards ceremony. The organization awards approximately 70 winners during the show's Premiere Ceremony at 1 p.m., which features categories such as producer of the year, best metal performance, best rap performance and best country song.

Hugh Jackman, an Emmy and Tony victor, won his first Grammy, picking up best compilation soundtrack for visual media for "The Greatest Showman". Beck's other win for Best Alternative Album was his 1996 album Odelay.

This year, Academy voters did pass on nominating perennial favourites like Taylor Swift for the top three prizes of Album, Record and Song of the Year, relegating pop stars who reigned in years prior to lesser categories. Christian singer Lauren Daigle also won Grammys.

United States audiences can watch the event live from 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT onwards on CBS on Sunday.

The film's chart-topping soundtrack, Black Panther: The Album, is up for album of the year, and the single All the Stars, by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, is nominated for record of the year, song of the year, best rap/sung performance and best song written for visual media.

The 37-year-old musician is the most-nominated female artist at this year's awards, earning six nominations. "This is just the beginning of moving to a more inclusive future". He later acknowledged that it was a "poor choice of words", and it forced the academy to launch a new task force focused on inclusion and diversity.

Jennifer Lopez will be performing at the Grammys this year.
