Investigators say they have an image from surveillance video of a pickup whose driver fired several shots into a auto carrying a family, killing a 7-year-old girl and wounding the child's mother. Another child in the vehicle suffered minor injuries from glass fragments.

The shooting occurred about 7 a.m.at Wallisville Road and the Texas 8 Beltway in Cloverleaf, Harris County Sheriff's Office Major Jesse Razo said.

A Texas sheriff has released the names of a daughter and mother who were shot when a man in pickup truck pulled up next to the vehicle they were in and opened fire.

Investigators say the driver of the pickup, described as a man in his 40s, fired into the vehicle, striking Jazmine and wounding her mother, 30-year-old LaPorsha Washington.

"Unfortunately, the life of my 7 yr old little girl was taken selfishly by a unknown suspect". He was driving a red pickup.

After the shooting, Washington and her other daughters noticed Jazmine was unresponsive.

"The family should be celebrating and spending time together anticipating the new year and instead they're making plans to bury this innocent, precious child", Gonzalez said. "Because we will be looking for you, we will locate you and we will find you".

The statement added that police located a number of weapons and explosives at the hideouts. Madbouly said the Egyptian authorities have been in contact with the embassy of Vietnam.

The suspect was wearing a red hoodie and fled in a red truck, Gonzalez said.

Razo said his department will continue to investigate the incident and "use all of our resources to bring this killer to justice".

Authorities were working to determine whether the shooting was random or targeted.

Sheriff's Maj. Jesse Razo said the teenagers who were in the auto are "shaken" and "devastated".

It wasn't clear what triggered the shooting.

Homicide detectives were scouring the area and checking surveillance video for clues. Jazmine's great-uncle said to ABC13 that wants locals to come forward.
