Netanyahu and his wife were greeted at the airport Friday by the incoming president's son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, and Rio Mayor Marcelo Bezerra Crivella.
It was all about expressing the bonds of "brotherhood" and mutual desires to boost technological, economic, and military cooperation between Brazil and Israel, during Netanyahu's first day in Brazil, having flown in on Friday, ahead of Jair Bolsonaro's inauguration next week.
On Sunday, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet separately with leading Brazilian journalists, leaders of the Jewish community; leaders of the Evangelical community; and Honduras president Juan Orlando Hernandez.
But the prime minister's staff said Netanyahu will first go to Rio de Janeiro for a meeting with Bolsonaro then travel to Brasilia for the January 1 inauguration.
After his October election, Bolsonaro reaffirmed a campaign promise to move his country's embassy to Jerusalem, earning praise at the time from Netanyahu, who called it a "historic" announcement.
Brazil is a major exporter of beef to Arab countries, and has come under threats of a boycott if it goes through with Bolsonaro's pledge to move the embassy. Bolsonaro said that "we are opening a new era in ties, and making history".

Netanyahu was making the Brazil trip despite domestic political turmoil in Israel and a spike in military volatility in neighboring Syria.
Despite earlier reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to attend the inauguration of pro-Israel Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro.
"We will be starting a hard government from January, but Brazil has potential", Bolsonaro said.
"It's hard to believe that we had no such contacts before", he said.
Netanyahu had told reporters on his flight to Brazil that "you can be certain I will speak with him about [the embassy] in our first meeting".
Both Netanyahu and Bolsonaro admire Trump, and are keen to forge closer relations between their countries. It is a great country with great potential for Israel in economics, diplomacy and security. The prime minister is expected to also meet with other foreign delegations attending the ceremony, including U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pomeo.
