Trump says build US-Mexico wall or he'll seal border

White House Targets Pelosi Even After Trump's 'Proud' Shutdown Vow

Amid shutdown, Trump reissues threat to close U.S.-Mexico border unless wall funds pass Congress

Trump appears to have been influenced by uber-conservative members of the media when he backtracked on his support for a government funding deal last week and propelled the federal government into shutdown mode just days before Christmas.

About 90 minutes later, Trump made clear he already is viewing the shutdown and border wall fight in terms of how it might help him during his re-election campaign.

Trump is also canceling plans to visit his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, and will remain in Washington over the New Year holiday, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said.

The 435-seat House was set to reopen on Thursday but on January 3, the 2017-18 Congress will be replaced by the 2019-20 Congress and control of the House will switch to the Democrats from the Republicans.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told "CBS This Morning" Friday that President Trump was "willing to negotiate" with Democratic leadership over funding for the border wall to end the partial government shutdown.

A partial US government shutdown was widely expected to continue after Congress reconvenes on Thursday, with lawmakers split over President Donald Trump's demand for $5 billion in taxpayer funding for a proposed Mexican border wall.

Trump also said the USA would cut off all aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador for "taking advantage of (the) US for years!"

City were being tipped as the next Invincibles less than three weeks ago but a defeat at Chelsea has turned everything around. We didn't manage the penalties, I realise, but on the pitch it was very interesting.

Despite Trump's threat, the United States this month announced a new collaboration with Mexico on a program to curb migration from Central American countries, with much of the $10.6 billion US contribution to be drawn from existing aid programs.

In one tweet Friday, Trump warned: "word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it". "We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries - taking advantage of USA for years!" he said.

White House aides ignored several requests for comment about any talks Thursday ahead of what turned out to be short House and Senate sessions.

He also pointed to the recent killing of a California police officer, allegedly by a suspect who's in the country illegally, to bolster his push for more border wall funds.

"There's not a single Democrat talking to the president of the United States about this deal", Mulvaney said Friday. Senate Republicans approved that compromise in an earlier bill with Democrats but now say they won't be voting on any more unless something is agreed to by all sides, including Trump.

He said it's futile, because no matter how high it is, he's not accounting for how far below ground it needs to go.

"Nancy Pelosi, in fairness, does not have the votes for the speakership yet", Mulvaney said. ".We were fully expecting them to come back and continue those negotiations".
