Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs) made quick work of former Super Middleweight WBA regular titlist Rocky Fielding (27-2, 15 KOs) on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from Madison Square Garden.
The Mexican superstar is still the holder of the WBC and WBA middleweight belts after his September win over Gennady Golovkin and he is the big attraction in boxing across the Atlantic.
As well as the controversy in the results of the two fights against GGG the bigger controversy was about Canelo's failed drugs test, which saw him banned for six months.
It was body punches that dropped Fielding in both the first and second rounds before a right hand to the jaw put the Brit to the canvas in round three.
With an onslaught focused nearly exclusively on the body, Alvarez scored four knockdowns in all - all four on left hooks downstairs - to the delight of a pro-Mexican sellout crowd of 20,112. "I have to talk to my team, enjoy the holiday and then I'll talk to my team". Erislandy Lara had worked Alvarez hard in his prior fight some 10 months earlier, but the Mexican was back in top form at Minute Maid Park, Houston. Fielding answered with some punches but Alvarez came back.
Fielding said the body shots felt "like the wind was being taken out of me", adding: "He placed them well and caught me".
Angela Ponce makes history at Miss Universe
Miss Spain's Angela Ponce became the competition's first transgender contestant, a major step for the 66-year-old pageant. Others might get the crown & other prizes, but Miss Spain, she gets the sky. "That is who she is", she further noted.
"Regarding the fights we'll see in the future, like I said, I'm all willing to make a third fight, " Canelo said. I feel very good and very strong at 168 pounds.
'What I always want to do is make the best fights, whether they're for a world title or not.
Even though Canelo is making his first entry into super middleweight against the taller Fielding, De La Hoya echoed his fighter in thinking there will be a knockout on Saturday night. "I thought I could mix it with him and I shouldn't have", Rocky lamented. The first from a blow to the head and the second, which ended the fight, was a devastating body shot from Alvarez.
"I don't know David Lemieux personally but I can tell you this - he said in interviews that he only took one week off after the Spike O'Sullivan fight [that he won by first-round knockout in September]", Johnson told ESPN. "I have no doubt that he'll be successful in this fight". "I lived a dream". Roach controlled the fight from the outset and took it easy late, which almost cost him when Mercado (15-2-1) nailed him with several hard shots in the final round.
Rocky Fielding actually started out his career as a light heavyweight, and moved down to the super middleweight class in order to participate in a British reality TV show called "Prizefighter".
