First transgender contestant competes in Miss Universe

Ashley Graham took a little tumble down the stairs between outfit changes while hosting Miss Universe 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand, she uploaded to her Instagram story.

Miss Spain's Angela Ponce became the competition's first transgender contestant, a major step for the 66-year-old pageant.

The Miss Universe contest will air on Sunday night, with talk show personality Steve Harvey performing host duties.

Hung was captured on camera talking with Miss USA, Sarah Summers, and Miss Colombia, Valeria Molares, about how hard it would be for Miss Cambodia, Rern Sinat, competing in the pageant as a woman who can not speak either English or Spanish. She also congratulated Catriona Gray, 24, for her win. She was selected by an all-female panel of judges, which included Monique Lhuillier and past Miss Universe winners.

In another interview just a month before the pageant, Gray acknowledged the voice that Ponce represents. Referring to he fanbase, she added: "Pianatics, let's do this. If they give me the crown, it would show trans women are just as much women as cis women". However, despite her participation Miss World organization didn't accept transgender participation. Others might get the crown & other prizes, but Miss Spain, she gets the sky. "That is who she is", she further noted.

Catriona Gray has proven that she's very hands-on with her Miss Universe outfits as she immersed herself in different local cultures and worked closely with designers.
