2013: Ohio State 63, Penn State 14: The Buckeyes dominated former Penn State coach Bill O'Brien's only visit to Columbus, with Miller throwing three touchdown passes and Carlos Hyde running for two. But he didn't blame only his health for stepping away. "[Brian] Kelly, Coach Meyer, everybody has been eyeballing him since he was a young graduate assistant". He's got nothing more to prove on the field, and he's never going to prove to his detractors that he is a different person than they think he is.

"I'm sure it will", he said.

"It has been an honor to represent for the last seven years this football program, my home state of OH, this university and community that I care so deeply about", Meyer said.

"The decision was a result of cumulative events", Meyer said during a packed news conference.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith on Tuesday said he knew Day would be his next coach "a couple of weeks ago ... for the last month, Urban and I every Sunday, we began to talk about potential transition". He was caught lying and deleting text messages by a university committee investigating why Meyer harbored a domestic abuser such as Smith on his staff for years.

The announcement Tuesday immediately led to more guesses about where Meyer could end up coaching next season or in the future.

While the defense struggled, Day's offense was breaking records left and right, including the Big Ten single-season passing touchdown record, which quarterback Dwayne Haskins took from former Purdue QB Drew Brees.

No. 3 Notre Dame to play no
Clemson made Trevor Lawrence the full-time starter over Kelly Bryant , while Ian Book replaced Brandon Wimbush for Notre Dame . The winners of the two semis will meet in the National Championship Game in Santa Clara, California on Jan 7th.

Meyer acknowledged the investigation was among the reasons for stepping down, and he was asked if the suspension will affect his legacy. If you believe that, I have a some oceanfront property I'll sell you in Topeka. A year later, he actually resigned, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. He said the move needed to be made before the early signing period opens on December 19. To assume Meyer's retirement counts the Buckeyes out in the near term is simplistic and premature; this is a team that's been a juggernaut under any number of coaches.

Another strength for Day is his understanding of what each player brings in ability and skill.

Meyer owns an 85-9 record in seven seasons with the Buckeyes. It will help in recruiting and it could even help on the field as early as next season.

Meyer, who had a "core values" banner in the locker room demanding his players treat women with respect, apologized to Ohio State fans following word that he would be suspended. "I followed my heart and not my head". He said in August, and Ohio State's medical staff confirmed, debilitating headaches are impacting him daily.

This season, Ohio State is 12-1 and won the Big Ten conference title, but it did not make it into the final four of the College Football Playoff which will decide the national champion.

Meyer shocked college football by resigning at Florida after five seasons amid what he called stress-related health concerns that came to light when he suffered chest pains following the SEC championship game.

It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native. Meyer was making a reported $4 million per year while coaching the Gators; he signed a contract with the team worth $24 million.
