In July this year I wrote an article about Michael Cohen that began with the words "Hell hath no fury like a personal lawyer scorned". In fact, Cohen told a federal judge, negotiations to build a Trump hotel there continued through most of the 2016 campaign, and Cohen had lied about it to Congress to protect "Individual 1", the owner of the company he worked for, which is to say, Trump.

The revelations come just hours after Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to providing false statements to Congress regarding the same business deal. "I have no deals that could happen in Russian Federation, because we've stayed away".

"If I did do it, there would have been nothing wrong".

The proposal to build a skyscraper bearing Mr Trump's name in the Russian capital ultimately did not materialise. He has said the project was in its early stages in the fall of 2015, as Trump's presidential campaign heated up. Cohen previously said he never received a response and the project was halted that month.

He also said he falsely told Congress he never took any steps toward traveling to Russian Federation, when in fact he had discussed travelling there, although he never did.

On Thursday, Cohen confessed that he lied to Congress about a real estate project in Russian Federation he had been involved with on behalf of Trump.

On or about August 28, 2017, the defendant MICHAEL COHEN, in the District of Columbia and elsewhere, in a matter within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully made a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement and representation, to wit, COHEN caused to be submitted a written statement to SSCI [the U.S. Senate Committee on Intelligence] containing material false statements about the Moscow Project, including false statements about the timing of the Moscow Project, discussions with people in the Company and in Russian Federation about the Moscow Project, and contemplated travel to Russian Federation in connection with the Moscow Project.

But now Cohen isn't solving problems for Trump, he's causing them. Among the people Cohen briefed on the status of the project was Trump himself, on more than three occasions, according to the document, "The Washington Post recaps".

Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's lawyer, expected to plead guilty to making false statements to Congress

Mr Cohen testified in August that Mr Trump had directed him to commit a crime by arranging payments to silence two women who alleged before the 2016 election they had affairs with Mr Trump. Both sides agreed they would not ask for a sentence outside of those range, provided Cohen continues to cooperate.

Cohen said nothing as a gaggle of reporters shouted questions at him.

According to Cohen's latest testimony, the Trump Organisation was seeking to do business in Russian Federation into the middle of an election year. He has also spread an unproven and unsupported theory that Mueller's team is coercing people close to Trump to lie about him to bring down his presidency.

Mueller earlier this week said Manafort could face additional charges related to lies they say he told investigators in the almost three months since he cut a plea deal.

The news that Trump was angling to make a deal with Russians while running for president (and the Russians just so happened to be assisting his campaign) is at once shocking and boring.

Once one of Trump's most loyal aides, he has taken a swift and thorough turn against the president in recent months.

That investigation has since expanded into Trump's business dealings about which Cohen would have critical information. "Not running or building a building", Trump said.

Not much was revealed other than that, but it was the first major report of another team being interested in Fultz. Last week, Fultz's agent denied that the 20-year-old guard would "prefer a fresh start with a new team ".
