In setback, Pompeo's North Korea meetings called off without explanation

He visited NY in May for talks with Pompeo in what was the highest-level trip by a North Korean to the United States in almost two decades.

"The United States remains focused on the fulfilment of the commitments made by the president Trump and president Kim at the summit in Singapore in June".

The latest NY meeting was set to come ahead of a busy season of diplomacy, with Pompeo meeting senior Chinese officials in Washington on Friday. While Kim was expected to have arrived in Beijing Tuesday, his flight from Pyongyang to Beijing was suddenly canceled that day.

A tougher USA stance on North Korea could complicate South Korea's efforts to improve relations with North Korea and expand cross-border exchanges in line with progress on the denuclearization of North Korea.
