Mohammed Jazil, who is representing Secretary Ken Detzner, said in a hearing Friday that by changing the noon deadline, it would cause problems with the counties that have already submitted their unofficial returns.
A spokesman for Mr Nelson, Dan McLaughlin, said the lawsuits were politically motivated and "borne out of desperation".

On Thursday, Scott and Senate Republicans filed a lawsuit demanding the recount be halted.
State Sen. Nikema Williams, Georgia director for the group Care In Action, says at least 2,000 people across the nation are involved in the effort to ensure that Georgia votes are counted.
"As soon as Democrats sent their best Election stealing lawyer, Marc Elias, to Broward County they miraculously started finding Democrat votes", he said of Democrats' top lawyer on the case. As of Friday morning, DeSantis led Gillum by 0.44 percentage point.

His lawsuits accused Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes and Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher of mishandling the ballot count and preventing observers from having full access as votes are counted. "Ms. Snipes' office has a record of incompetence and illegal behavior".
Scott has asked state law enforcement to investigate the elections offices of Palm Beach and Broward Counties for wrongdoing, without evidence of what should be investigated.
"I will not sit idly by while unethical liberals try to steal this election", Mr Scott said.
