A 10-year-old Wisconsin girl has been charged in the death of a 6-month old infant.
This photo provided by the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin shows Colten Treu, who is accused of striking and killing three Girl Scouts and a parent and critically injuring a fourth girl near Chippewa Falls, Wis., Nov. 3, 2018.
A 10-year-old girl has been taken into custody over the murder of a six-month-old baby.
The criminal complaint prosecutors released describe a struggle for the steering wheel between Treu and the passenger in his truck shortly before the vehicle veered off the road and struck the Girl Scout troop working in ditches along the highway in Lake Hallie, a town about 95 miles (152 kilometers) east of Minneapolis.
"She panicked, didn't know what to do and didn't want to get into trouble", Newell said at the girl's bond hearing, KSTP-TV reported.
State law requires the case, at least initially, to be held in adult court. Police told Fox News, "The truck failed to stop and render aid, but instead left the scene of the crash".
Iranians rally to mark anniversary of US Embassy takeover
Iranian students stormed the embassy shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, taking 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin were expected to provide more details on the sanctions at a briefing Monday.
Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said the incident was reported at 4:34 p.m. October 30 of a 6-month-old who was bleeding from his head and unresponsive. Judy Schneider said her 6-year-old grandson doesn't understand that they're gone.
All members of the group - seven children and five adults - "were in the ditch, not on the pavement or gravel shoulder at the time of the crash" and were "wearing green highly visible safety vests", police said. She was with her biological parents, the paper reported, but she had been removed from their home in September and placed in the foster home.
The fatal incident was similar to one in September, when Treu crashed his auto and police found methamphetamine and THC in it, Newell said in court.
Treu appeared via video in court Tuesday afternoon for an initial appearances on 11 counts, including four counts of homicide.
Colten Treu, 21, sped off after the collision in Lake Hallie Saturday morning, but later surrendered.
Treu and the passenger told police they had been "huffing," or intentionally inhaling chemical fumes, police have said.
