Nintendo Switch Just Outsold Gamecube's Lifetime Sales

Nintendo Switch Surpasses GameCube, But …

While Sony expects to sell 17.5 million units before year's end, Nintendo is trying to be a bit more ambitious - selling 15 million consoles in the next three months is no small feat.

This is significant not so much just because sales keep climbing - I could have told you that would eventually happen - but because of the differences between the Switch and the GameCube that highlight how Nintendo has changed and adapted to the changing market.

If Nintendo hits its sales targets for the Switch this fiscal year, it'll also surpass the N64's lifetime sales of 32.93 million units.

At a recent Nintendo earnings meeting, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that he wants to see more DLC content for the companies existing games.

Should Manchester United's penalty have stood? Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp debate
Silva was less pleased with United's French connection, as he accused Martial of diving to win the penalty award from Jon Moss. I like the player that wants to take it. "We had it under control even when it was 2-1", said Mourinho.

In these six months, Nintendo sold 5.07 million Switch consoles, which is up 3.7% compared to the same period previous year.

Operating profit in the July-September quarter was 30.9 billion yen (about $275 million), up from 23.8 billion yen a year ago. The Kyoto-based company maintained its full-year forecasts. Nintendo believes it can achieve its high target with the upcoming Pokemon and Super Smash Bros, so it is all dependant on those titles as to whether it can achieve this.

"It was a quiet quarter without many big releases from Nintendo", said Hideki Yasuda, senior analyst at Ace Research Institute. Super Mario Party is the kind of title that is easy to play, even by people using Nintendo Switch for the first time.

Revenue from the seven year-old 3DS continued falling sharply, dropping 65 percent to 16.4 billion yen in the September quarter from a year ago. Nintendo has previously said it will release another smartphone title, Mario Kart Tours, sometime before April. If any first-party Nintendo title in the world were to boost the Switch into Wii-like numbers, I think it'd be that one.
