Prithvi Shaw first grabbed the attention of the world as a 14-year-old when he 546 off 330 balls for Rizvi-Springfield against D'Assisi High School in the Harris Shield tournament of 2013-14.
The stage was ideal for Shaw. After Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara added 206 runs for the second wicket, Virat Kohli too chose to join the run-fest.
He reached his half-century off 56 deliveries and was unbeaten on 75 off 74 deliveries at lunch as India reached 133 for one, with Pujara on 56.
Shaw became India's second-youngest century maker after Sachin Tendulkar as he reached three figures early in the second session. Holder injured his ankle during the preparatory camp in Dubai, and in his absence, opener Kraigg Brathwaite was handed over the captaincy for the second time in Tests. If the conditions are pacer friendly, India would want to give Shardul Thakur a Test debut and slot him in the playing XI in place of the third spinner.
His immediate success in the test arena justified the selectors' move to build for the future.
Shaw earned a reputation as a batting prodigy.
Rakitic: Barcelona superstar Messi different to other players
After slotting the ball past Hugo Lloris in the 56th minute, Messi ran over to a TV camera behind the goal while pointing. Barca pushed for more goal as the second resumed, as Messi rattled the upright twice in the opening five minutes.
Led by Virat Kohli, who returns from the Asia Cup rest, India will be hoping to maintain their dominance at home. "He has sacrificed a lot for me". I wanted to make this chance count. "I needed to be more careful as there were only 10 minutes left before tea". Prithvi also got the opportunity to bat with his skipper Virat Kohli in his very first match.
WICKET! Sherman Lewis gets the big wicket of Virat Kohli, who is dismissed for 139 runs.
He was out trying to drive legspinner Devendra Bishoo but only chipping straight back to the bowler.
Kohli, who is the world's number one Test batsman, got to his half-century against Bishoo and was getting more unsafe with each passing ball.
In the morning, Shaw, who became the 293rd cricketer to represent India in Tests, showed supreme confidence from ball one, on which he offered a watchful leave.
First day's play of the first Test will start from 9:30 am IST and 5 am BST.
