Storm season peaks: Hurricane Florence still far from landfall, uncertainty remains for East Coast

It had maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour and was weakening, but is forecast to strengthen again once it reaches waters south of Bermuda.

"Swells generated by Florence will begin to affect Bermuda [Friday] and will reach portions of the U.S. East Coast over the weekend", the center said.

Meanwhile, two tropical waves off the African coast have become better organized, and forecasters give them 90 percent chances of tropical development in the next two days.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, Hurricane Florence had 115 miles per hour winds and was located northeast of the Leeward islands, according to the National Hurricane Center.

"It's too early to tell what impacts Florence may have on North Carolina, but it's not too early to prepare for this storm".

The latest outlook from the National Hurricane Center brings the storm south of Bermuda Tuesday. But Florence's path is expected to generate potentially risky surf swells and rip current conditions that will begin to affect Bermuda by Friday.
