Bishop Ellis and Franklin's pastor, the Rev. Robert Smith Jr., led a solemn procession of the casket inside the church.
Franklin's contribution to the civil rights movement - both spiritual and financial - was honoured by Rev. Al Sharpton, who said: "She represented the best in our community and she fought for our community until the end". And then came Aretha.
"She gave us pride and she gave us a regal bar to reach". On Thursday night, a sold-out tribute concert was held at Detroit's Chene Park Detroit Amphitheatre.
According to TMZ, Gladys had discussed it with the legendary singer the last time they spoke to each other. "I just loved her".

Aretha Franklin had a voice that stirred the soul and changed popular music forever. Today, she will be buried with all the pomp and splendor one would expect for a royal funeral.
