Pakistani MPs elect Imran Khan as prime minister for the next five years

Former Indian cricketer and Tourism, Cultural Affairs, and Museums Minister in the Punjab state government Navjot Singh Sidhu travelled to Pakistan today.

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Sidhu said: "I have come to Pakistan on my friend's (Imran) invitation". Among Pakistani cricketers, those on the guest list for the event are greats like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Rameez Raja, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Moin Khan and Aaqib Javed who were a part of the team that won the 1992 World Cup final.

An ally of Khan's, the PTI's Asad Qaiser, was earlier elected speaker of Pakistan's lower house, paving the way for Friday's vote when a simple majority made the former cricketing star the country's prime minister.
