Fred joined the Red Devils for a fee of around £52million back in June but City had also been circling for some time, with Pep Guardiola an avid admirer of the 25-year-old Brazil worldwide.

"When you look at Manchester City, possibly Liverpool, I don't think they [United] have the quality of those two teams at the minute", he explained.
