Moscow appoints action star Steven Seagal special envoy on Russia-US humanitarian ties

The actor has been a very public supporter of Putin, going on television to defend the Russian president over accusations of meddling in the 2016 United States elections.

"I hope we can strive for peace, harmony and positive results in the world", he added. He is the special representative for Russian-US humanitarian ties.

Moscow has appointed USA actor Steven Seagal as a special envoy, dealing with humanitarian links with the United States, the Russian foreign ministry announced on Saturday.

The ministry further stated the Seagal's unpaid role will be similar to the United Nations' goodwill ambassador. "I take this honor very seriously".

It is the latest honour Russian Federation has bestowed upon Seagal.

Conor is back: UFC says McGregor will fight Oct. 6 in Vegas
So should Nurmagomedov and McGregor put pen to paper in the next few days, their bout could very well be announced at the event . As it played, Diaz abruptly left the presser he was at and tweeted "I'm not fighting on that show (expletive) the UFC ".

Seagal's grandmother was born in Vladivostok, Russia, and the two men share a passion for martial arts.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the appointment on Saturday saying Seagal's role would be to develop Russian-U.S. relations in the "humanitarian" sphere, including in the fields of culture, art and youth exchanges. But Seagal has faced some criticism for his bromance with the controversial Russian leader: He has praised Putin's annexation of Crimea, for example, and last year, Kiev banned him from entering Ukraine for five years, claiming he has "committed socially unsafe actions" that could threaten their security. While that may seem, let's say, confusing, it's not a complete shock if you've kept track of Seagal and his russophilia in the last few years.

He has previously hung out with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a fellow martial arts fan. He's also visited with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and Belarusan President Alexander Lukashenko.

Seagal was seen at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation and was also among the guests when Putin was sworn in for a fourth term in May.
