Speaking during Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills, California, Thursday, Allen was asked whether he believed ABC did the right thing in firing Barr over her controversial May tweet. The show was cancelled due to an offensive tweet Roseanne posted about Obama's former aide Valerie Jarrett.
"I go way back with Rosie and that's not the Roseanne that I know", he said.
Allen, who plays an outspoken conservative on "Last Man Standing", also spoke of his longtime friendship with Barr, whom he called "the most diverse and tolerant woman I've ever known for a long time". "Whatever got in her head isn't the Roseanne I know".
In addition to being friends and fellow comedians, Allen can certainly relate to Barr considering his own conservative ABC show Last Mind Standing, a series about a traditional American father and his family in Denver, Colorado, was canceled after six seasons in 2017. What Lenny Bruce said at the Purple Onion in 1951 ... we've gone backwards. Who makes up these rules? And as a standup comic, it's a unsafe position to be in because I like pushing buttons.
In a follow-up interview, Newman said he doesn't "anticipate" the show being "more political" than when it was on ABC.
"I think it was a financial decision", he said. In a now-viral rant teasing her new YouTube show, she repeatedly screamed, "I thought the bitch was white!" "This guy's a practical guy... if it's helping his business, I think he's probably pro-Trump".

The group said it still plans to focus its resources on helping Republican senate candidates in Tennessee, Florida and Wisconsin. Heidi Heitkamp , for her vote in support of reform to the Dodd-Frank financial regulation legislation.
"Last Man Standing" will return for a seventh season on FOX in September.
"Excited?" asked Allen in a statement previously sent to Fox News.
Abbott chimed in adding that Baxter is definitely "a conservative, he's a Republican".
"The producers' plans are simply not to address whether or not he might be a Trump supporter", Newman said. But he emphasizes that the show won't play political favorites: "We want both sides to think it's amusing".
"There's some big surprises and good stuff coming", Allen promised. And a fist pump, ouch, for [Fox Television Group CEOs] Dana Walden and Gary Newman at Fox for not only listening to the fans, but for making the bold move to bring Last Man Standing back. It's gonna be a better show because of all you people that did this and I just hope we.
