The Latest: Schumer chides Trump for heated rhetoric on Iran

'Trump embarrassing himself with anti-Iran tweets'

This speech happened just three weeks before the US's banking sanctions on Iran will roll back into place, following the US's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal in May.

"I withdrew the United States from the frightful one-sided Iran nuclear deal, and Iran is not the same country anymore", Trump told the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Kansas City.

Earlier on Sunday, the Iranian leader had warned Trump to stop "playing with the lion's tail" and threatening Iran, "or else you will regret it".

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday supported Rouhani's suggestion of blocking oil shipments through the Persian Gulf if Iran is prevented from selling its oil by USA sanctions which come into effect in November. The rhetoric is not particularly different from North Korea's, if more hollow: Iran, unlike North Korea, has no nuclear weapons, and there's no way it can hold off the United States conventional military might.

"To Iranian President Rouhani", Trump tweeted Sunday night.

Trump expects 'big results,' including North Korea, after Putin summit
According to Yonhap , Trump's remarks come a month after his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore. Trump said he discussed North Korea with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday at their summit in Helsinki.

The price of gold soared more than 30 percent over a single day recently because of all the Iranians rushing to buying the yellow metal, commonly viewed as a good way to preserve wealth in volatile times. "COLOR US UNIMPRESSED", Zarif said, adding that "we've been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, incl our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries".

"Europe isn't immune to Iran-backed terrorism". He also said this new deal would not be like the "disaster" deal made by the Obama Administration. He speaks with them daily, she said, but declined to give any details about any steps Trump is looking to take with Iran. Iran has insisted it will not renegotiate the deal.

Pompeo also slammed Iran's political, judicial and military officials, accusing several by name of participating in rampant corruption, and called its religious leaders "hypocritical holy men" who amassed wealth while allowing their people to suffer. They did not include benchmarks for Iranian democracy or human rights.

The State Department, though, says no known member of the Iranian exile group was invited to Pompeo's speech.

Trump responded to this on Twitter, warning Iran that they faced dire consequences if they attempted to threaten the U.S. again and leaving no doubt that this was a line that the Iranian Regime should not attempt to cross.
