The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the fire northwest of Sacramento scorched at least 70 square miles (180 square kilometers) by Monday morning. But if it keeps moving south and crosses Highway 128 into Solano County there are many homes that could be threatened in the Vacaville area.

In Colorado, more than 2,500 homes were under evacuation orders as firefighters battled more than half a dozen wildfires around the state.

Cal-Fire said the fire spread to 72,500 acres Tuesday night; almost the size of Sacramento.

Fire officials said almost 700 homes and other structures were threatened as a result of the fast-moving wildfire.

Jesper Joergensen, 52, initially said he had started a fire to burn trash on land where he has been living in a camper but then said he had been grilling in a permanent fire pit the day before the wildfire started, the document states. He said he tried to put it out but caught a blanket on fire and burned himself.

Multiple agencies are battling a fire in Warm Springs that began burning Monday.

CLEARLAKE OAKS Cal Fire officials said Monday they expected the Pawnee fire, which has already burned 14,700 acres and destroyed 22 structures, to be fully contained by Thursday, as ground resources worked throughout the night Sunday to reinforce control lines and extinguish interior hotspots. However, recent reports indicate the fire is now fully contained.

Walker Ridge Road remained closed at Highway 20, affecting access to the Indian Valley Reservoir boat launch and campground.

That's a bit below last year's acreage to date - which included the beginning of California's devastating fire season - but above the 10-year average of 3,600 square miles.
