Veterans to rule at 2018 Wimbledon Tennis Championships?

Serena Williams Wimbledon

GETTYSerena Williams is hoping to be seeded at Wimbledon

She made her Grand Slam comeback at the French Open, where she won her first three matches before pulling out of her fourth-round clash against Maria Sharapova due to pectoral injury.

The two have had their go-rounds in the press over time - see exhibits A, B and C - but with Wimbledon around the corner, John McEnroe has high praise for Serena Williams. "I've played tennis for over 30 years, so I'm so used to [being] incredibly fit", she said.

"I think it's great, and I know that there is definitely some talks, and I'm sure that some rules are going to change in the near future about this". She can be given a seeding but it depends on tournament organizers who traditionally go by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings and Williams is now ranked at 183. These pregnancies do tend to come later in their careers, but they seem able to get back to championship-winning form and quickly.

"Having won so many Grand Slams and being No 1 for so many years, she deserves a seeding".

Williams has not officially been added to the Wimbledon draw just yet, but is in London ahead of the decision on Tuesday.

Harden becomes the third ever Rocket to claim the award following Moses Malone (1979 and 1982) and Hakeem Olajuwon (1994). Robertson is the career leader in triple-doubles and was the first player to average one for a season.

Seeds at major tournaments outside of Wimbledon follow tennis' ranking system, which takes into account a player's recent win-loss record.

Initially, Richard Lewis, the club's chief executive, said it was "unlikely" Williams would be seeded, but that comment drew criticism, including from former Grand Slam victor John McEnroe.

Venus Williams is not a particularly verbose woman, yet what she lacks in loquaciousness, she makes up for in succinct power phrases. She entered unseeded after the birth of her daughter in September. Because I think ten years from now I think more and more players will want to have families and then coming back. It's thus clear that Serena's pregnancy situation is affecting her betting odds, which might present value.

'Why in the world would they want to play her in the first, second or third round? "I don't think I would've won if I was not pregnant", she said.

"I think she is competitive, her level and fitness is back". That's why I gave my daughter the trophy. "It just took away all fear that I had".
