Cape Town - Duchess Meghan's father, Thomas Markle has given his first TV interview since his daughter married into the royal family in May.
Mr Markle was paid a "few thousand pounds" for the tell-all interview with Good Morning Britain and Meghan's father chose to do it because he wanted "set the record straight", host Piers Morgan revealed afterwards. "I was complaining about not liking Donald Trump; [Prince Harry] said "give Donald Trump a chance".
But the decision is likely to upset the newlyweds because it is understood he never told them about it and then gave millions of viewers a blow-by-blow account of his private conversations with Meghan and the sixth in line to the throne. "That was his politics, I have my politics, so".
Asked about her choice of husband, Mr Markle told the programme he thought Harry was "great" and "an interesting guy".
Markle said he also asked his future son-in-law about Britain's 2016 decision to leave the European Union and got the impression Harry is comfortable with Brexit. There was no real commitment to it.
"I was honoured, I can't think of a better replacement than someone like Prince Charles".
Thomas described Prince Harry, who he's only ever spoken to over the phone, as a "very nice man, a gentleman, and very likeable".

The insurgents, who have ramped up missile attacks against Saudi Arabia, are often known to claim successful strikes. Ambassador Obaid Salem al-Zaabi made the comments during a news conference with journalists Thursday.
"I realised it was a serious mistake. I apologized for it", he said. It was then claimed that he had had a change of heart, before he told TMZ that he would be having surgery on Wednesday and would not be flying to the United Kingdom to see his daughter marry the prince.
"It was incredible watching her", he said.
The 29-year-old bride attended Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding and she returned the favour by inviting the couple to her country wedding to George Woodhouse at St Andrew and St Mary's Church in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire. "That upsets me somewhat", Markle said.
Meghan's now father-in-law, Prince Charles, stepped in to take Thomas' place - a move that he was pleased with.
"Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding".
Thomas goes on to share more information about his daughter during the interview, including her plans to have children as well as what he now calls her after she received a royal title.
He said he was not prepared for the global media attention on his family following his daughter's engagement to a British royal. The royals are very complicated, but she can always rise to that occasion.
"My daughter is capable of anything", said the proud dad.
