Bannon also addressed the Trump administration's broadly condemned and not legally mandatory policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the border.

Her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said Mrs Trump "hates to see children separated from their families" and believes the United States should be a country that "governs with heart".

It's also a situation that has been brewing since the week U.S. President Donald Trump took office, when he issued his first order signalling a tougher approach to asylum-seekers.

First lady Melania Trump said Sunday that she "hates" seeing immigrant children being separated from their parents at the U.S. -Mexico border, but did not acknowledge that the separations are the result of a policy put in place by her husband's administration that he could easily reverse.

"This must not be who we are as a nation", said Representative Jerrold Nadler, one of seven members of Congress from NY and New Jersey who met with five detainees inside a facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey, including three who said they had young relatives removed from their care after seeking asylum at the border.

The wall on the USA border with Mexico was Trump's signature campaign promise, but since taking office, he has been unable to get more than token funding from Congress for the project. "I will tell you that nobody likes this policy", Conway told Chuck Todd on NBC's "Meet The Press".

Democrats are being forced to get creative in protesting the Trump Administration's new "zero tolerance" stance toward immigration, as they are outnumbered legislatively in the House.

While he continues to lie by saying that Democrats are at fault, Melania Trump's Father's Day statement emphasises the fact that laws are always applied with discretion and that we can be both a law-abiding country and one that "governs with heart".

Trump is expected to meet with House Republicans on Tuesday to discuss immigration legislation, including the Trump proposal to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

In the morning on Friday, about 100 people from the village of Persiapan Lawela combed the fields, Agence France-Presse reported. In a similar occurrence, a man was also reportedly swallowed by a snake at a palm oil plantation in West Sulawesi in March 2017.

Late Sunday, Department of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, who has boldly threatened to quit but not followed through, attempted a different strategy from her superiors: She pretended the policy she (supposedly) dislikes so much doesn't exist at all.

Trump's former chief strategist said Republicans would face steep consequences for pushing the compromise bill because it provides a path to citizenship for young "Dreamer" immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.

Now, undocumented migrant adults are arrested and jailed, and their children are then classified as unaccompanied alien minors and taken away to separate facilities.

Trump has said Democrats need to get behind Republican legislative efforts. "So if they don't like that law, they should change it", Conway explains.

"I hope to produce the outrage and the public pressure to force those in power to do the right thing", he said.

Across the USA protests are taking place, as those who are against the separation of families are speaking out.

"It's zero tolerance. I don't think you have to justify it", Bannon said.

Mrs Trump has called for Republicans and Democrats to work together on the issue. They say they will reject funding for a border wall that they call effectively useless and symbolically counterproductive and criticize Mr. Trump's policies as increasingly cruel. "The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders", she wrote.
