The Karnataka High Court had on Tuesday directed the state government to provide necessary security for the peaceful release of the film.
Sources at Chennai theatres say the film has found pre-bookings only for two days, which is extremely unusual for a Rajinikanth film.
Meanwhile, the initial reports for the Rajinikanth starrer Kaala have been largely positive, with praises pouring in for Rajinikanth and Pa Ranjith. The film's timing couldn't have been better with the superstar having recently made his official entry into politics in real-life. Leading Kannada activists such as Vatal Nagaraj, Sa Ra Govindu and Praveen Shetty were after they led multiple protests, opposing the release of the film. Kaala's release seemingly more impacted by politics than even Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavat, that was released after the Supreme Court's directions.
Cinema halls, where it was to be screened, refused to show the film, leaving cinema goers, especially diehard fans of the Tamil superstar, disappointed. As the film premieres worldwide, fans took to their Twitter handle to give their initial review for the film.
Marcelo Predicts Neymar Switch, Says Cristiano Ronaldo 'Doesn't Own Real Madrid'
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid this summer and his decision is "irreversible", according to reports in Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't appear in Real's new kit promo after speculation about his future at the club.
An official, on the condition of anonymity, said: "We have not issued tickets for the morning and afternoon shows though many fans turned up to watch the movie on the first day first show as we do not want to antagonise the protesters and also want to ensure that the tense situation outside does not go out of hand". Our honour and Kannada pride are at stake. His request came after numerous pro-Kannada outfits threatened to stall the film over Rajinikanth's reported remarks on the Cauvery row involving Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Kabali is said to have earned more than 10 crores in Karnataka alone.
A Rajinikanth movie is destined to be a super-hit.
Kumaraswamy, who is also a producer and distributor of Kannada films, advised the exhibitors not to show the movie for the time being despite the court's intervention in the larger interest of the state and its people.
