Oliver Luck to be commissioner and CEO of XFL

Oliver Luck leaving NCAA post for the XFL, calling new league 'a labor of love'

League creator Vince McMahon hopes he found some in Oliver Luck, who he revealed Tuesday will serve as the first XFL commissioner and CEO.

The @XFL2020 has named former National Football League and NCAA player and executive Oliver Luck as its first Commissioner and CEO, sources tell ESPN.

8 teams will be selected to launch the league in 2020.

The XFL's lone season happened in 2001, and was a project from NBC and the WWE.

Vince McMahon announced the return of the XFL back in January, with the inaugural season set for 2020. Most recently Luck was the NCAA's Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Strategic Partnerships where he oversaw all NCAA regulatory functions including enforcement, academic and membership affairs, and the Eligibility Center.

"The XFL will be a labor of love as I get to combine my experiences as a player and executive", Luck told ESPN in an email. The pro-wrestling overlord's first attempt at an alternative to the NFL, in 2001, was marked by slapdash preparation and awful football, dooming it to a lone year of existence.
