Liverpool and England Defender Joe Gomez has acknowledged that he is "gutted" to have been ruled out of both the Champions League final and the World Cup.

Gomez picked up an ankle injury on England duty back in March but did return after a month on the sidelines to make two Premier League appearances.

Now, the Times' Paul Joyce, among others, has confirmed that Gomez has played his last game of the season, with the youngster undergoing surgery on an ankle problem.

The news comes as a blow to both Liverpool and Gomez himself, with Joyce adding that he is likely to miss this summer's World Cup.

The versatile defender has allegedly undergone an operation on the problem, meaning that the player will be absent from the final top-flight game with Brighton & Hove Albion and the meeting with Real Madrid in Kiev.

Moon, Li reaffirm joint efforts to denuclearize N. Korea
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang was quoted as saying that North Korea has a "clear will toward denuclearization and is doing what the country should do".

"Thank you for all your support over the course of the season".

Liverpool will be up against the Spanish giants in the final after they knocked out Roma 7-6 on aggregate, while Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 4-3 over the two legs.

Klopp is also harbouring concerns over midfield duo Adam Lallana and Emre Can, while Joel Matip will not feature again this season due to long-term thigh injury.

Unless Klopp's best friend David Wagner and his Huddersfield side can pull off a surprise win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, then Liverpool go into Sunday's game knowing they must at least match Chelsea's result against Newcastle, managed by former Reds boss Rafael Benitez.
