Winnipeg Jets best Nashville Predators in Game 3, lead series 2-1

Predators edge Jets in Game 2 to even series

Predators strike back with double-OT win over Jets in Game 2

Three goals in 2:51 erasing a 3-0 road lead in a series between the two best teams in the National Hockey League this season. Winnipeg is 35-7-2-0 at home this season, but the Predators are no slouches on the road at 27-10-3-4. In the first game they scored just once on 48 shots.

"It's definitely not how you draw up a first period but nobody panicked", said defenceman Jacob Trouba following the game. So, yeah. There's a reason they're not getting more minutes.

But it was the Predators who self-destructed with consecutive minor penalties to Game 2 overtime hero Kevin Fiala (tripping), P.K. Subban (high sticking) and goalie Pekka Rinne (slashing) with his best impersonation of Manitoban Ron Hextall to give the Jets three power plays in a row.

It was Fiala's second overtime goal since last last season.

Winnipeg played a better game, but the result they desired didn't follow. Byflugien had a goal and an assist, and Brandon Tanev had a goal for Winnipeg. He had two goals and an assist, three hits and a ton of ferocity. The FiST line had the game victor, the JoFA line generated three goals and five assists... the big guns came to play.

Johansen finished with two goals, Viktor Arvidsson had a goal and two assists and Filip Forsberg set up three scores.

"I had so much fun and wanted to continue to support the team by asking a few of my friends to get in on the action", she added. A cross check from Ryan Ellis and co-incidental roughing minors against Nick Bonino and Mark Scheifele put the Jets on the power play to start the third period. "You can't win hockey when you stop playing".

Johansen said the Predators stopped skating after blowing the lead.

"We have to just look at this game and find the positives and move on - obviously easier said than done - and get ready for Game 4".

Game 4 takes place on Thursday, May 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET in Winnipeg. Instead of continuing up the ice, like normal, the puck went airborne.

Wheeler then missed a wide-open net after Rinne's turnover before getting cleaned out by Watson along the boards.

In turn, Winnipeg must feel confident as ever entering Tuesday night's Game 3.

After missing on a number of earlier chances, the Jets captain connected on a rebound off Mark Scheifele's shot from a tight angle for his second of the postseason. The puck bounced off Paul Stastny's skate and into the back of the net so quickly that officials didn't see it.

Down 3-0 after a poor first period, Winnipeg roared out of the gate in the second to tie it during a frantic three-minute stretch. Especially on a night when infractions that would get you time in prison weren't called.

And then, just 20 minutes later, my computer was literally shaking along with the building as I tried to type.

Winnipeg got its third man advantage of the third with 5:59 remaining when Subban went off for high sticking after failing to clear the puck twice late in a previous Jets power play before Wheeler scored the victor.

The Winnipeg Jets remain flawless on home ice in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. "It's just like Nashville, it's a loud arena with passionate fans", he said. "It's real too. Our crowd noise is from our crowd, it's not from speakers or from music or from live bands or whatever".

"That's people making noise and that goes right through your body". Nicklas Backstrom scored an empty-netter to seal it with 6.1 seconds left, shortly after T.J. Oshie appeared to be injured. Washington responded after blowing a two-goal, third-period lead in Game 1 by winning a predictably chippy Game 2. It was great to see the Predators get off to a hot start, considering they were only able to get one goal past Connor Hellebuyck during Game 1.

Watson made it 3-0 with 2:25 left when he took advantage of an awkward Winnipeg change and sniped a shot through the legs of Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey, under Hellebuyck's glove and off the post for his fifth.

Fisher nearly added to the misery late in the period, but his backhand hit the post behind Hellebuyck. We are back to our normal Wednesday night 7pm timeslot.
