Oculus launches standalone VR headset that doesn't require a PC or wires for $200

Oculus Go now available for purchase, starts at $199

The Oculus Go is the flawless easy to use VR headset for everyday use to immerse in videos, games and social apps.

The Oculus Go itself is now available for order at Amazon and a variety of retailers, for just $200. It comes in two configurations, one with 32GB of storage space, and one with 64GB of storage space.

The Oculus Go is the company's first stab at a standalone virtual reality headset, with all of the necessary hardware built in. Battery life is claimed to last between 1.5 and 2 hours of gaming, 2 and 2.5 hours for video viewing.

At this point in time, there is no word on United Kingdom availability of the Oculus Go. The headset's design echoes that and the experience once you jump in. And while this headset does not have tracked controllers, Oculus has done a lot to create software that understands how to translate some lateral hand movements from a fixed elbow position so the interactions you get here feel deeper.

Samsung starts working on Android Oreo update for the Galaxy A8 (2018)
The Samsung Galaxy A6 is expected to feature a 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display alongside an Infinity 2.5D curved glass display. The Galaxy A6 is expected to be priced between 300 and 340 euros - which is roughly around Rs 24,000 - Rs 27,000.

The Oculus Go will be released on the first day of the Facebook developer conference F8.Best Buy stores have the Oculus Go already on the store shelves ready to be sold today, May 1. Nor does it require a separate smartphone to provide the screen and brains of the device.

Overall though, the headset is far more high-quality than any other on-the-market standalone headset I've tried to date, costing hundreds of dollars less than most of that competition as well. Reddit users were posting photos of locked cabinets full of Oculus Go hardware, and signs at the F8 registration desk stating that attendees would be able to pick up their complementary Oculus Go hardware at 2 P.M. on May 2.

That architecture has helped Facebook and Oculus keep the price down, of course, but it has also forced some compromises.
