Shaquem Griffin - the NFL prospect with one hand

Who is Shaquem Griffin? Five things you should know about the former Central Florida linebacker

When the Seattle Seahawks selected linebacker Shaquem Griffin in the fifth round of the 2018 National Football League draft, the praise for Griffin reached a new level.

Griffin was a star for the unbeaten Knights last season and then lit up his combine workouts, running a sub-4.4 second time for the 40-yard dash, the fastest time for a linebacker at the combine since 2003.

The Seattle Seahawks chose the University of Central Florida player in the fifth round of the seven-round NFL draft - the mechanism by which teams recruit the best college football prospects to the professional level.

Shaquem was very humbled and excited about playing with his brother when Seattle picked him."It was literally like a dream like I was actually imagining stuff and it just started happening", Griffin said in a conference call with reporters after Saturday's selection.

He and Shaquill played alongside each other at Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Griffin waited during the first two days of the draft in the green room of AT&T Stadium's backdrop while player after player had their names announced.

Added Shaquill: "I was going to be happy no matter what team that gave him the opportunity".

And perhaps in proper fashion, it unfolded in front of the die-hard fans who - like Griffin - stuck it out into the draft's less-hyped final day of picks. "Great job @Seahawks Congrats @ShaquemGriffin & @ShaquillG".

"This is not the end of my's only just the beginning", Shaquem said.

"I know the 425, the 206 - I know the area codes for Seattle".

"I couldn't breathe. I didn't know what to say".

Griffin also bench-pressed 225lb 20 times, three more than his identical twin managed, having attached a prosthetic hand onto the bar.

Since the, he's been the talk of the league, and the outpouring of support from the entire NFL and wider sporting community after he was drafted was wonderful to see. "A lot of anxiety these few days, but I am ready to get up there and go to work and start something great".

Griffin's college coach Scott Frost tweeted "About time", after the pick was made.

"I tell you, it's awesome".
