On Tuesday, Cuomo spokeswoman Dani Lever stated he stays dedicated to a Democratic takeover of the Senate. Simcha Felder announced he would continue to caucus with the Republicans, guaranteeing the Democrats would come up short in changing the balance of power.

Felder dashed those hopes before the polls even closed, saying he didn't want a fight for Senate control to mar the last weeks of the legislative session.

"We are committed to flipping the I.D.C. seats and, following that, flipping red seats to blue", Lisa DellAquila, a leader of True Blue NY, a liberal activist group, said in a phone interview on Tuesday, referring to the Independent Democratic Conference, a group of breakaway Democrats who have since reconciled with their party.

Steve Stern, a former Suffolk County legislator who ran as the Democrat candidate, defeated Republican candidate and civil litigator Janet Smitelli in the race to represent the 10th Assembly District in Long Island.

Republicans will retain control of the Senate at least through the end of the current legislative session in June.

In the Bronx, Democratic Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda faces Republican Patrick Delices (deh-LEE'-sehs).

Democrats are favored to win the two Senate seats up for grabs today, which would bring the party's total to 32. However since Democrats received each of Tuesday's races, they now have a one-seat numeric majority.

In New York, Democrats already management the Meeting and maintain the places of work of governor, lawyer basic and controller. But Mr. Felder, who was elected in 2012 as a Democrat but nearly immediately declared his intentions to sit with Republicans, remained an outlier.
