Rain suspends Bristol race until Monday afternoon

Kyle Larson had rocketed his way to more than a straightaway lead over second-place Denny Hamlin before the rains came.

After 204 laps, four red flags and three rain delays Sunday, NASCAR officials made a decision to postpone the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway to Monday afternoon at 1. The race will resume at 1 p.m. and FOX will provide television coverage.

The Weather Channel forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of precipitation and a high of 42 degrees Monday. With Bristol in the mountains, some snow flurries aren't out of the question.

Looking ahead to Monday, the weather looks to be much colder as temperatures will be in the low 40s most of the afternoon.

It happened on turn three when Chris Buescher and Trevor Bayne, who were fighting to stay on the lead lap, got tangled up in front of Blaney, leaving him nowhere to maneuver.

"I think so - maybe better, maybe a little freer", Larson said.

The Daily Telegraph wrote: "Six glasses of wine a week is too much despite government guidelines suggesting it is a safe limit". He also noted it was important to remember the study focussed on mortality rates, not quality of life.

The race at Bristol Motor Speedway was postponed until April 16 because of heavy rain with Larson out in front. Before officially postponing the race having a prediction of rain for the remainder of Sunday night time NASCAR waited about a hour or so.

NASCAR rules state a race cannot be declared official until its first two stages have been completed, though races stopped after this point can be considered complete and full points handed out.

"It's hard to get a rhythm going with all the rain and stuff, getting in the auto and getting back in", Larson said. "Our [car] is really fast".

Larson has a good auto, but the race could take a different dynamic with drivers likely knowing that they are racing to the completion of 500 laps instead of potentially 250. "But, feeling good about it so far". He likes to race in that groove.

"Winning my first Cup race is something that I really want to get done", Jones said. "We need to get the weather out of here if we can". "If you get out of it, it's slick".

"The bottom is the dominant lane for 30 laps or so". "I guess they changed the scheduling and we didn't know". I think we're getting better in every category.
