Israeli authorities said on Wednesday they had arrested 10 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip over alleged plans to carry out a missile attack and hostage taking against a navy ship.

He called protests at the border "a clear provocation" and rejected calls for an independent enquiry into the killings.
"The blockade of Gaza, through which Israel controls all but one of the entry points, continues to have a devastating effect, limiting people's movement, their access to health care and markets, and leaving the majority of the population dependent on humanitarian aid".

The demonstrations on Friday were part of the annual "Land Day" or "the Great March of Return" of Palestinians, which started in 1976 as a protest against the Israeli confiscation of Palestinian lands.
